Netaji Subhash Vidyaniketan an epitome of learning embedded with Unity , Faith and Sacrifice
'' Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high
Where knowledge is free
Where the world has not been broken up into fragments
By narrow domestic walls
Where words come out from the depth of truth
Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection...'' (Tagore)
The Home of Learning that was built on the spirited endeavors of a handful of inspired youths has now reached the age of 75. On 3rd March 1948, it was first named "New Agartala High School" which remained upto 1949 while it was only a Boys' school. Later those educationists, inspired by Netaji's ideals, renamed the school "Netaji Subhash Vidyaniketan" which after many ups and downs has remained a proud name within the field of education of the state.
World War II is over, India is now independent. Due to civil war, waves of refugees have come here from the-then East Pakistan. Who will educate their children? Will their future perish? Can this ever happen? Came forth some inspired people - Respected Dwijen Dey, Satyendranath Kar, Mintu Ganguly, Nagendranath Ray, Shanti Sur, Kamini Kumar Dutta, Nilu Ganguly (First Secretary of the Managing Committee), Aditya Kumar Manikya Bahadur (First President of the Managing Committee), Haridas Sen, etc. Then began the run-around of meeting after meeting. On 25th February 1948 started the first phase of the school where only one student was enrolled. On 3rd March 1948, at Mr. Dwijen Dey's home at Orient Chowmuhoni of Agartala "New Agartala High School" opened and there it stayed upto 2nd March 1949. On 3rd March 1949, it shifted to its present location as our Heart "Netaji Subhash Vidyaniketan". The road to the future was opened for the children of the refugees of the state. Netaji Subhash Vidyaniketan started its journey with the motto of "Unity, Faith and Sacrifice" with its first Head-Master being the respected Mr. Satinath Bhardwaj. After that, the responsibility of Head-Master was taken up by a disciple of Netaji's ideals, the honourable Mr. Hirendranath Nandi with honourable Mr. Dinesh Chandra Dutta acting as Assistant Head-Master. The continuous success of the school began from that point. It became a center for cultural activity. Within the bamboo huts, made from materials brought from Ishaanchandranagar and Nishchindapur, educational and cultural activities accelerated the development of Netaji Subhash Vidyaniketan. Though the school house was burnt down many times, its progress was never hindered. In 1958, the "Sanskriti Bhawan" was built to promote cultural activities. This was the vision of Head-Master Hirendranath Nandi and the 'Sanskriti Bhawan' was inaugurated by scientist Satyen Bose and the-then editor of ' Jugantar' newspaper Dakshina Ranjan Bose. The students gave their own tireless labour to build this 'Sanskriti Bhawan' and to honour their great endeavor no student, guardian or guest is allowed to enter with their shoes on into this great hall. The hut of the past is now a building, tall and proud. Time has placed many bends in our road but we have not strayed from our goals. Behind it lies the great efforts of all our respected and idealist teachers. Our motto of "Unity, Faith and Sacrifice" has not been compromised and we have never looked back. In 1949, under the Kolkata Board, 100 students appeared for their Metric Exam and the result was not-so-good as only 10 students passed. But in the Final Exams of 1950, the students of Netaji Subhash Vidyaniketan made a comeback with a 100% success rate that year with 39 students with Star Marks. This year opened the doors of the school for female students, thus becoming a Co-ed School. This same year saw the beginning of Netaji's Birthday Celebration and Procession. The sprinting had begun. The songs of marching had started. Students of the Vidyaniketan have made their presence known from State to National to International Levels and have continued to do so till date.
